ESTA VISA Requirements
Machine-Readable Passport issued by the Govt is mandatory for all travelers from above Participating Country to the U.S. under the VWP (including infants and children). Your Passport validity must be extended to six months beyond the traveler’s planned date of departure to the U.S. (unless exempted by country-specific agreements).
E-Passport with an integrated chip containing information from the passport data page is the Mandatory Passport Requirements for the passengers traveling with ESTA from Chile, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, the Republic of Korea, and Slovakia:.

There is no spacific Passport equirement for travelers from Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom as it is totally depending upon the issuance date of your Passport. E-Passport for ESTA
On or after October, 2006 issued passport has to be e-passport with an integrated computer chip capable of storing biographic, biometric and digital photograph information from the data page of the passport holder, in order to obtain an ESTA under VISA Waiver Program. There should be a symbol of e-passport on the front side of the booklet through which it can be identified that it is an e-passport. If you are not having the E-Passport and you are a citizen of a VWP country that joined the Visa Waiver Program prior to 2008, you can still travel without a visa if:
- You should obtain a valid passport with a machine-readable zone issued before October 26, 2005; or
- If your passport includes a digital photograph and was issued between October 26, 2005 and October 25, 2006.
You will have to get a VISA, in the case you were issued a passport on or after October 26, 2006 and it is not an e-Passport.
You need to obtain a VISA If any traveler from listed (VISA Waiver Program)VWP country not holding the passports with a digital photograph printed on the data page he/she will be required to obtain a visa to travel to the U.S. You may refer the image which on the right hand side of the page.
If you don't have a such short of Passport, you may still travel without a visa if:
- You are a citizen of a country that joined the VWP prior to 2008 and possess a valid passport containing a machine-readable zone issued before October 26, 2005, or
- You have an e-Passport, which includes an integrated computer chip capable of storing biographic information from the data page, a digital photograph, and other biometric information.
VISA need to be obtained, in the case your passport was issued on or after October 26, 2005 and it does not meet the aforementioned requirements.
Machine readable passport for ESTA
Machine-readable passport is to be issued by all those 38 countries who participates into VISA Waiver Program(VWP). There should be two line of text as letters on Machine Readable Passport, numbers and chevrons (<<<) at the bottom of the personal information page, along with the bearer’s picture. You may refer the sample images shown.
You got two options, in the case you don't have such short of passport:
- You may apply for a fresh passsport, in the case Country is producing one, or
- Apply for a standard VISA.
